Brevity is hard. Really hard. Sit down to write a story, and more often than not a stream of consciousness takes over, filling your copy with fluff that just doesn’t matter. Recently I was reading about Hemingway and The Original Short Story. Hemingway bet his friends that he could construct a short story in just six words. He won:
For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.
Here’s some others from the article that stuck out for me:
With bloody hands, I say good-bye.
- Frank MillerKirby had never eaten toes before.
- Kevin SmithHe read his obituary with confusion.
- Steven Meretzky
So, anyone up for the challenge? Can you write a short story using six words?
